Motherwell 'turn down six-figure bid' for Kevin van Veen

Motherwell have turned down a big bid from a Chinese side for star striker Kevin van Veen.

Changchun Yatai are said to have put forward a six-figure offer for the Fir Park hitman earlier this month, according to Daily Record.

It is understood the Super League club made direct contact with the club to try and prise away the Dutchman - who still has just over a year left on his current deal with the Steelmen - but their offer wasn't enough to convince 'Well to part with the player before the Chinese transfer window slammed shut.

The move would have led to a substantial boost to van Veen's wages but he is "happy to remain and see out the season."

Van Veen took his goals tally for the season to 24 with Motherwell's equaliser in a 1-1 draw with Celtic on Saturday.

And after the game Motherwell boss Stuart Kettlewell insisted his star man was going nowhere.

He said: "There has been absolutely no talk about Kev going elsewhere. I have a brilliant relationship with him, as I keep saying. He loves his team-mates, his team-mates love him, and I know that's the PC way of going about the answer, but it genuinely is.

"Kevin has found a place that's a home, the supporters love him, he performs well for us, and we want to have him.

"There's nothing that suggests to me that's going to change.

"I know throughout Kevin's career - he will speak about it himself, he'll be honest - that at times maybe he hasn't been his best version and maybe others haven't seen the best of him.

"I think he's found a home, and a place where he's coming up with the goods, and he values my feelings towards him, but also his team-mates and the supporters.

"I think that's massive. Sometimes when you've got that, the grass isn't always greener on the other side."
