Motherwell star Paul McGinn would rather play "minging and win" as they bid to stop the rot at Ross County

Paul McGinn says he's enjoying the new style of play under Steven Hammell but says right now he'd rather play "minging and win" after a run of four league games without a victory.

The Steelmen travel to Dingwall tonight to face Ross County in a rearranged Premiership clash that was called off last month after the death of Queen Elizabeth II, before a trip to the capital to face Hibs on Saturday.

They go into that run following a heartening display in a 2-1 defeat to Celtic on Saturday.

Motherwell felt like they could have gotten something from the game at Parkhead but McGinn would rather they come away with points from their travels than positive performances.

The 31-year-old, whose side haven't won in the league since a 1-0 victory over Livingston on August 20 - said: “The new manager has come in and changed the style and maybe that has felt fresh for the boys who were in bad form.

“It feels nice to play in to be honest. It feels good.

"At the same time it would feel even better to play minging and win the game.

“We need to take the positives from the Celtic game, but right now having played well in three games and having zero points it is hard to.

“Going up to Dingwall then through to Edinburgh, it is going to be tough. Hibs are in good form.

“It is important we stop the rot on Tuesday night and we know that.

“The way we are playing things just cannot turn. If you are looking from the outside it looks like a bad run of form, but if you actually watch the games I think you will know you are playing a good team.”

Reflecting on the defeat to Celtic, McGinn felt the Steelmen could have been a bit more adventurous early on after a nervy start.

He added: “We are frustrated. I thought when we were brave on the ball we caused them problems.

“I thought we could have been braver. For the first 20 minutes I thought we were a bit like rabbits in the headlights.

“Celtic can do that to teams. But I thought we actually had a bit of composure, the goal helps with that, it calms you down.

“That is now three games in a row where we have played quite well and got nothing.

“Football is a tough game.”
