Motherwell's mauling of Ross County not even our best display, insists Steven Hammell

Steven Hammell insists Motherwell's 5-0 mauling of Ross County wasn't even their best performance of his stewarship as the Steelmen returned to winning ways in the Premiership last night.

Striker Kevin van Veen hit a hat-trick - his second of the campaign - in the Highlands, while a fine strike from Callum Slattery and a Jo Efford effort put the Staggies to the sword.

It is the Fir Park side's first league win since August 20 but Hammell reckons his side have played even better this term after a run of fine performances which didn't deliver results.

He said: "It’s not our best performance – our level of performance has been high most games this season.

“We’ve probably created more chances in other games this season.

“The difference was just how clinical we were tonight.

"It is something we highlight and work on every single day and it is good to see it coming together tonight.

“It does feel like it has been coming.

"If results like that didn't start coming we might need to be more pragmatic, but we want to stick to the style we have and some of the goals we scored were magnificent."

It lifted Motherwell up to sixth spot and level on points with fifth place Aberdeen, having played a game more.

They now face another away trip when they travel to the capital to face Hibernian on Saturday.
