Motherwell 'close' to loan move for Celtic youngster Adam Montgomery

Celtic are set to send youngster Adam Montgomery out on loan for the second time this season.

The Daily Record reports that Motherwell is leading the chase to sign the 21-year-old until the end of the season.

The Steelmen are looking to fend off interest from other Premiership rivals, as well as English lower-league clubs, to land the left-back.

The top-flight strugglers are desperate to sign a left-back this month after Brodie Spencer, who spent the first half of the season on loan at Fir Park, was recalled by parent club Huddersfield.

Montgomery was last week recalled by Celtic after an unsuccessful stint at Fleetwood Town.

The youngster managed just six appearances for the League One outfit. He joined under Scott Brown in the summer, however, he was sacked in early September and the club has changed manager twice since.

It's said that Brendan Rodgers wants to keep a closer eye on Montgomery, so Motherwell seems to be his likely destination.

Montgomery has previous first-team experience in the SPFL at Aberdeen and St Johnstone. His season-long loan at McDiarmid Park last term was certainly regarded as a success as he helped the Perth side stay in the division.

He will be the latest fringe player to move out of the champions on loan in the window. Celtic are believed to want to loan out several players to Premiership clubs so they can keep close tabs on them.

South Korean midfielder Hyeokkyu Kwon joined St Mirren on loan last week.

Meanwhile, reviews of the imminent first arrival of the transfer window at Celtic have varied somewhat since he first came across Scottish radars.

Statistical analysis has had Nicolas Kuhn pegged as the next Angel Di Maria, while some who have watched his displays for Rapid Vienna so far this term fear he may be the next Celtic rough diamond in need of a right good polish.
