Motherwell boss targets 'sweet' first win but won't underestimate Hamilton in derby

Motherwell boss Stephen Robinson insists they won't underestimate Premiership bottom dogs Hamilton Accies in tomorrow's Lanarkshire derby.

Accies prop up the table with three defeats from three, but the Steelmen have been in disappointing form themselves with two draws and two defeats from their opening games.

And Robinson insists the sides have had similar fortunes early on, with good performances not delivering the results they deserved, so he won't be taking Brian Rice's men lightly.

He said: "We've had scouts at every game and they [Accies] have been unlucky, a bit unfortunate.

"I've said it numerous times, there's nothing in it in this league.

"You see the game last night [Aberdeen's 1-0 win at St Johnstone], there's nothing between the two sides and sometimes a bit of fortune goes your way and that wins it.

"So Accies are exactly the same.

"They've had good performances without getting results.

"We won't underestimate Brian or his team in any shape or form.

"We'll have to be at our best to win the game.

"A derby game - you know it's going to be a tough game. Any time you play Hamilton, nothing is easy.

"They don't give you anything, you've got to earn the right to play football, which we will do."

Back-to-back defeats to Ross County and Dundee United have been followed up with successive draws at home to Livingston and away to Hibs.

But Robinson - whose side also have a huge Europa League qualifier against Glentoran from his native Northern Ireland on Thursday - is backing his boys to find the right performance to bag their first win of the season on derby day.

He added: "I think three of the four performances have been good without getting the results we deserved.

"The Livingston performance I wasn't happy with and sometimes people need reminders of what they are good at and why they were good, and I think we got that response against a very good Hibs team last week without getting the result.

Hamilton were disappointed against St Mirren last week and are still looking for their first win of the season as well (Rob Casey/SNS Group)

"And we hope to turn that into a result on Saturday in the derby.

"There's only three points available, but it's a big game for us.

"It's a game we want to win and it would get our season up and running properly.

"Sometimes performances come before results, that's been our case, and it would be even more sweeter to win in a derby game and get the points."
