Mother charged with murdering her five-month-old son in north-west London

A mother has been charged with murdering her five-month-old son in north-west London.

Mariam Benzain, 31, of Harrow, appeared at the Old Bailey on Tuesday and has been remanded in custody for a hearing at a later date.

Police were called to a property in Preston Road, Harrow, to reports of an "injured infant" on July 22.

Officers and London Ambulance Service attended and a baby boy, aged five months, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Benzain was arrested at the same location and charged with the murder of her son, Elias Biad.

She was kept in custody to appear at Willesden Magistrates’ Court last Friday.

A post mortem was carried out at St Thomas’ Hospital on Monday and gave the preliminary cause of death as an "incised wound".

Homicide detectives from the Met’s Specialist Crime are investigating.
