Morton probe alleged racist abuse from Cappielow fans against their own player

Two fans were kicked out of Morton's home fixture against Ayr United as the club begin a probe into racial abuse against one of their own players.

The 2-2 draw against the Honest Men turned ugly as a late away equaliser ended up costing Gus MacPherson his job as Ton manager.

The club are level on points in the Championship table with Dunfermline and bottom side Queen of the South and fans worried about the prospect of relegation voiced their displeasure.

But it's alleged a couple went too far as the Inverclyde side say they won't stand for any form of discrimination and appealed for information on the alleged racism, confirming a male and female were ordered to leave the game.

A club statement read: "The club is aware of an alleged incident of racial abuse being shouted from the home support at one of our players during Saturday’s match against Ayr United at Cappielow.

"We are aware that a male and female were ejected from the stadium during the game.

"To gain further clarity, and identify the individuals, we would ask that any supporters who have any information around this alleged incident, email ceo@gmfc.net.

"Racism has no place in football, or wider society. As a club, we condemn all forms of racism, and any racist behaviour will not be tolerated."
