More chaos on South William Street as three arrested for throwing bottles at bar staff

There was yet more chaos on South William Street on Thursday as three people were arrested for throwing bottles at bar staff.

Gardaí shut down the street for a period in May and again over the June Bank Holiday after scenes of violence - which led Dr Tony Holohan to tweet about his concern in relation to the amount of people gathering outdoors.

But with outdoor dining since reopening, things had calmed down - until last night, with a video of the scenes being published on social media.

The brutal fight occurred at around 9:30pm

The video starts off showing two people attempting to move back the four person gang, with one of them throwing a chair at the men in the process.

One of the men chases the gang further down the street while holding a table, and an inaudible exchange between the two groups occurs.

The situation escalates further when the gang begin throwing glass bottles at the other people, one of whom produces kung-fu style spinning kicks to protect themselves.

A brutal fist fight then breaks out and members of the public intervene.

One person was taken to St James' Hospital for non-life threatening injuries.

Gardai attended the scene and arrested three men, one in their late teens and two in their early 20s

A spokesperson told Dublin Live: "Gardaí are investigating reports of a group of four persons causing a disturbance on South William Street, Dublin 2, on 17/06/2021 at approximately 9.30pm.

"It is reported the group threw glass and glass bottles at people in the area. One victim attended St. James' Hospital for non-life threatening injuries.

"Gardaí attended the scene and three men, two early 20s and one late teens, were arrested and taken to Pearse Street Garda Station.

"Investigations are ongoing."
