Excise policy case: Court extends Manish Sisodia’s judicial custody till June 1

Delhi’s Rouse Avenue court on May 23 extended the judicial custody of Aam Aadmi Party leader Manish Sisodia in money laundering case being probed by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) till June 1. Controversy erupts when AAP condemned Delhi police for ‘pushing’ the former deputy chief minister on his way back to prison while the police termed the attack as a ‘propaganda’.

During the hearing, special judge MK Nagpal also directed the jail authorities to consider providing Mr Sisodia a chair and a table along with books inside the prison.

Mr Sisodia is in Jail since February 26 and was arrested in the now scrapped excise policy amid allegations of corruption. He is an accused in the cases lodged by CBI. ED is further probing a money laundering case in the same matter.

When Mr Sisodia was being taken to jail from the courtroom on Tuesday, he was allegedly pushed by a policeman the moment he started responding to a media query on the ongoing confrontation between the AAP government in Delhi and the Centre over who controls officers.

“Modi has become very arrogant,” Mr Sisodia responded and was immediately pushed b some policemen in uniform and the video of the act went viral.

The Aam Aadmi Party has condemned the act which they claimed was ‘violence’ with the former deputy CM of the national capital. As per sources, the party is also considering legal recourse in this specific incident.

“Does the police have the right to misbehave with Manish ji like this? Has the police been given orders from above to do this?” Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal tweeted.

AAP minister Saurabh Bhardwaj in a press conference questioned if the police have the right to behave like this with Mr Sisodia and if this was done on the orders of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

“Did Modi ji ask the police to do this? Delhi Police should immediately suspend this officer,” Mr Bhardwaj said.

He further added that the PM has become arrogant and the country will never forget such misconduct with the best Education Minister, in the country.

“Lord Krishna shattered the arrogance of Duryodhan and Mama Shakuni. Now, Lord Krishna will definitely shatter the arrogance of today’s Duryodhan and Mama Shakuni. We believe that in the 2024 elections, the ground is being prepared for the Mahabharata, and with the blessings of Lord Krishna, this election will put an end to BJP’s arrogance,” he added.

Responding to the allegations, the Delhi police said that the matter of police misbehavior with Mr. Manish Sisodia at the time of production in Rouse Avenue Court is a ‘propaganda’.

“The police response publicized in the video was imperative from a security point of view. It is against the law to issue statements to the media by the accused in judicial custody,” the police took to twitter responding to the accusation.
