Revenge
8pm, E4

And so the night-time soap bows out after four memorable seasons of improbable intrigue, bizarre backstabbing and nonsensical dream sequences. Grayson matriarch Victoria has faked her own death, but former daughter-in-law Emily/Amanda confesses to her murder. Of course it’s just an attempt at exacting her revenge for a final time – cue a prison break plot with BFF Nolan. With all manner of bloodshed and hurried resolutions crammed into this final hour, it’s a fittingly ridiculous and hammy goodbye. Hannah J Davies

The Met
9pm, BBC1

Debut of a five-part series, shot over the course of a year spent with London’s police. Like any documentary focused on people who routinely deal with life’s extremes it can hardly help but fascinate, and indeed it does. This episode focuses on the perennially contentious issue of the Met’s relationship with London’s black community. As it is filmed, the Met – and London in general – are bracing for the High Court’s verdict on the 2011 killing by police of Mark Duggan, which sparked widespread rioting. Andrew Mueller

Japan: Earth’s Enchanted Islands
9pm, BBC2

Carp that help with the dishes, tadpoles suspended in a tree and “cow demons” with a ninja-like capacity to make themselves scarce in the forest. These are just some of the natural lives played out on Honshu, Japan’s largest island and subject of the first film in a wildlife-cum-cultural travelogue series devoted to the archipelago. Including Japan Diaries, which charts the filming of macaques and black bears – mostly trapped and tranquillised for their own safety. Jonathan Wright

Kevin McCloud: Escape To The Wild
9pm, Channel 4

Grand Designs man Kevin McCloud eschews complex self-build projects in a new series wondering whether a simpler life might be better for us all. For the first instalment, he visits the south Pacific archipelago of Tonga to meet a British family who upped sticks in order to distance themselves from the rat race. Karyn and Boris live very much off the grid with their three children, with no fresh water, no electricity and a regular threat from hurricanes and tsunamis. But how do they cope? Ben Arnold

How To Be Bohemian With Victoria Coren Mitchell
9pm, BBC4

How to define bohemianism when the very word, and act of defining, is, in itself, “un-bohemian”? That’s the challenge Coren Mitchell sets herself, in this entertaining history and study of this “country of the mind”. She travels from its bourgeoisie-shocking origins in 1830s Paris, where artists walked lobsters through the park, to Victorian London and Oscar Wilde – whose “boho” credentials are given short shrift here. Ironically, though, he did end up authentically bohemian for reasons of utter decrepitude. Ali Catterall

Man Down
10pm, Channel 4

Greg Davies continues to excel as a teacher driven by cynicism – a role he created for himself with his performances in The Inbetweeners. The second series of his sitcom brings impressive people out of the woodwork (Geraldine James? Really?) and reprises a similar manic energy. Tonight’s episode derives dark laughs from the excruciating demands of the school’s community week and Dan’s farcical attempts to woo his colleague Jo with the assistance of a second world war veteran. It seems unlikely things will end well. John Robinson

Game Of Thrones
9pm, Sky Atlantic

Historically the penultimate episode of each Game Of Thrones season tends to either feature a moment of high drama – the Red Wedding – or of epic conflict (last season’s assault on the Wall). No word as to which of those we’re likely to witness here – previews were unavailable at the time of writing – though what we do know is that it will feature the gruesome spectacle of the Fighting Pits, where Jorah is due to compete, and Jon Snow’s return to the Wall, after last week’s bruising encounter with the White Walkers. Gwilym Mumford
