Monaco explosion leaves Ukrainian tycoon and his family seriously wounded

  • An explosion at a residential building in Monaco injured three people, including Ukrainian oligarch Vadym Yermolaiev and his wife, who are in critical condition, and a 13-year-old child.
  • Monaco's minister of state, Christophe Mirmand, described the incident as 'likely a terrorist attack' targeting Mr Yermolaiev, noting it was the first such act in the principality's history.
  • The blast occurred after an unidentified man left a bag containing explosives, bolts and metal pellets outside the building's entrance, with surveillance footage capturing the act.
  • A suspect was seen fleeing across the border into France, prompting a joint search by French and Monaco authorities, who are currently investigating the motive behind the attack.
  • Mr Yermolaiev, a wealthy real estate developer, had previously renounced his Ukrainian citizenship and was sanctioned by President Zelensky in 2023 over alleged business dealings in Russian-occupied Crimea.
