Stadium announcer blunder sums up size of Man City rout vs RB Leipzig

Manchester City advanced to the Champions League quarter-finals in some style on Tuesday as they hammered RB Leipzig 7-0 on a remarkable night at the Etihad.

Erling Haaland was the inevitable star of the show as he bagged an astonishing five goals to continue his obscene maiden season at City. Ilkay Gundogan also got in on the act while a back-to-his-best Kevin De Bruyne grabbed the best of the bunch with a sublime strike into the top corner.

Here are five moments you may have missed from the match...

Henrichs finally punished

It's easy to forget as it was so many goals ago but City's opener was certainly fortuitous. No one noticed the 'handball' as the ball ping-ponged around the penalty box but VAR intervened to punish Benjamin Henrichs. It didn't even look like the ball touched his hand but a penalty was given nevertheless.

While harsh, it was karma for Henrichs who did get away with a blatant handball when he pushed it away in the box in the final seconds of the home leg three weeks ago.

Yet more Haaland records

It seems like a week doesn't go by without Haaland smashing records but his latest accolades might be the most impressive yet. He reached and surpassed 30 Champions League goals against Leipzig, doing so in just 25 matches. That's the quickest the tally has ever been reached after it took previous record holder Ruud van Nistelrooy nine more games to do so.

Additionally, Haaland has also beaten out Kylian Mbappe to become the youngest player to achieve the feat after doing so at the age of 22y 236d compared to the Frenchman who did it at 22y 352d.

If all that wasn't impressive enough, Haaland now has 39 goals this season and as a result has beaten Tommy Johnson's record for the most goals in a single season as a City player which has stood for nearly a century since 1929. He could potentially have up to 19 more games this season to stretch his own record to lengths only he could ever break.

Complete standing ovation

Haaland was finally taken off to the great relief of the poor Leipzig defenders following his fifth goal and took a well-deserved rest. As his number went up, the whole of the Etihad Stadium rose to their feet to give the striker a rousing ovation.

Even Manchester United legend Rio Ferdinand, on BT Sport punditry duty, couldn't help but applaud his brilliance. Afterwards, an exuberant home crowd busted out the old favourite Poznan dance.

Haaland enjoys his handy work

The Norwegian once said it was his dream to have five touches in a game and score five goals. He got pretty close so it's understandable that he couldn't take the smile off his face after leaving the field.

Haaland was joking with John Stones and Rico Lewis on the bench clearly delighted with his night's work, even more so when he got to see a replay of his strikes. It's hard to blame him!

Hard to keep track

There were so many goals in the game that some struggled to keep track. At full-time, the stadium announcer accidentally announced the final score as 8-0 and 9-1 on aggregate. An easy mistake to make!
