Moment sunshine makes return at Parklife following heavy thunderstorms

As the clock turned 3.30pm on Sunday afternoon, a procession of dark clouds, thunderstorms and torrential rain hit Heaton Park.

With organisers putting a temporary 'full show stop' to festivities, fans were advised to stay away from large metal structures and seek shelter until the weather passed. And then, at 5pm, it did.

Festival-goers paraded around the grass and cheered with one another as the sunshine made a welcome return and the music began again. It was service as normal.

Beyoncé's Break My Soul was the song of choice to welcome the crowds back and saw people raise their hands in jubilation to the return of the good vibes.

Despite the rain, temperatures have Parklife have been humid and warm - hitting highs of around 27C. But an amber weather alert for thunderstorms remains in place across Greater Manchester and the north west until 9pm this evening.

Friends Cole and Mason don’t seem too fazed about the changing weather - which they say is 'usual Manchester' - but are pleased the rain has stopped. “The sun just means more birds,” Cole cheekily states.

Others flock quickly back to the Parklife Stage where Becky Hill, Wu-Tang Clan + Nas, Self Esteem and The 1975 are still yet to perform.

Matt and his son William, who are here to see Wu Tang and Nas, said before the storms that the day has been particularly warm. “It’s so hot and the park is so big,” Matt says. “We’re just trying to find the best place for shade.”

Entry rules allow up to 200ml bottles of suncream and lotions in their original bottles - although they might be tested and checked by gate staff upon admission. People can also bring one empty water bottle with them to fill up at one of the many water stations dotted across the site.
