KOLKATA: There's no stopping David Lalhlansanga as the youngster scored another brace in Mohammedan Sporting's 3-0 win over Dalhousie AC on Monday and took the black-and-white brigade to the Super Six stage of the CFL Premier Division.
Manipuri striker David won the Golden Boot award in the just-concluded Durand Cup with 6 goals. And the 22-year-old continued his rich form, scoring two quick-fire goals in 23 and 34 minutes to set up Mohammedan Sporting's ninth win in 11 matches.
Dettol Moirangthem netted the other goal in the 77 minute as Mohammedan Sporting also returned to top of the Group 1 standings with 28 points, two points ahead of Diamond Harbour FC. Mohun Bagan (20 points from 9 matches) now need at least five points from their remaining three matches to advance to the championship round at the expense of Kalighat MS (24 points from 12 games).
Top three teams each from two groups will make the Super Six stage, in which they face each other to determine the champions.
On Monday, Mohammedan Sporting players wore black armbands in memory of their supporter who died of a heart attack during the team's previous match against Army Red.
In Group 2, already-qualified Bhawanipore FC finished their group-stage campaign with 27 points, following a 0-0 draw with BSS SC at the Kalyani stadium.
Emami East Bengal FC (27 points from 11 games) and Kidderpore SC (25 points from 12 games) are the other two teams to have finished in top three of this group.
