Mohamed Salah sends defiant title message as Liverpool keep pace with Man City

Mo Salah has reminded Manchester City that Liverpool's title destiny is still in their own hands after their win at Brighton.

The Reds made light work of the Seagulls on Saturday, securing a 2-0 win at the Amex thanks to goals in each half.

It keeps the Merseysiders within three points of the champions, who go to Crystal Palace on Monday night looking to extend the gap.

Salah's goalscoring exploits have been a major part of Liverpool's title charge this term.

The Egyptian scored in the 2-2 draw with City at Anfield back in October and the return fixture at the Etihad next month looks set to be a defining 90 minutes.

A win for Liverpool could see them leapfrog their rivals at the top of the table.

Salah, following the weekend's win, said on social media: "It is still in our hands".

The Reds have an FA Cup clash with Nottingham Forest next up before they face Watford at Vicarage Road and after that they travel to the champions.

Klopp led Liverpool to the Premier League title back in 2020 - ending a 30 year drought for a league triumph.

He is now aiming to land a second and spoke about writing more history in the north west of England, but stopped short of talking up any such title race.

“We want to write a special story here, not only this year but in general," said the Liverpool boss.

“If you want to look back later in life on very successful times, you should give absolutely everything now. We have no time and no points to waste.

"We have to keep going, that is clear, and if there is any kind of momentum we should keep it and work with it.

“We cannot call it a title race because we are still behind but we have to win football matches but everybody is excited about having the opportunity to have a title race.

"So far the boys did really well and why should I think we can’t go on?”

Salah's own future has been a point of discussion throughout the year as the forward gets ready to enter the final 12 months of his deal.

The 29-year-old has scored 28 times this term as he eyes a third Golden Boot in five seasons. He is seeking a new deal, but there have been rumoured disagreements regarding his salary.

Klopp said last week: "Mo expects this club to be ambitious. We cannot do much more. It is Mo's decision. It is all fine from my point of view.

"Nothing happened further, no signing or rejection. We just have to wait, there's no rush."
