Moffat rugby fans are doing a three peaks ramble over Dumfriesshire hills – Criffel, Hartfell and Queensberry – to help support their club, the Rams.
It will be the latest phase in a proud tradition of raising funds for whatever is needed for the teams, clubhouse and grounds.
Normal fundraising has suffered because of the pandemic restrictions which saw events that usually finance the season ahead being cancelled.
And, with the clubhouse kitchen closed, its usual income stream has taken “a huge hit”.
Now a group of club members and volunteers have decided the hill challenge can bring in a wedge of cash to help the Rams get back up and running.
It is being organised by rugby development officer, Cameron Little, who said: “By doing the 3 Peaks Ramble over Criffel, Hartfell and Queensberry we aim to challenge ourselves mentally and physically to raise £500 to help support the teams and assist us to continue offering rugby to the community and surrounding area.
“As a community club that owns its own facility we rely on fundraising to help with the daily running of our club. With Covid, its been a challenge and for over a year now we haven’t been able to have any games or fundraising events like our junior festivals or 10s tournament. They generate the bulk of our funds for the following year.
“Safety compliance within rules and guidance have limited our return to rugby but we are slowly getting back up and running.
“As a club we continue to grow now fielding some 10 teams at every age group from five plus, along with our new girls programme and walking rugby.
“If you can spare a pound then please gift it to our cause, it would be very much appreciated.”
The ramble, by senior players and committee members, will take place this month, in June and July. Sponsor forms are available from R Little Bakers in the town or from the club and members. Anyone who wants can donate at: https://gofund.me/56904a25.
