Mock draft watch: Montez Sweat back in the mix in Touchdown Wire’s latest

The fresh wave of post-combine mock drafts is hitting the internet. Brother site Touchdown Wire posted its latest courtesy of analyst Doug Farrar, and he taps into a combine standout for the Detroit Lions with the No. 8 overall pick.

Montez Sweat earns the projection nod from Farrar. The Mississippi State EDGE blew away the defensive end competition by running a 4.41 40-yard dash, nearly a full tenth of a second faster than anyone else and over two-tenths faster than the average time.

That factors heavily into the projection,

Sweat made himself more money than anybody else at the combine, D.K. Metcalf included. Running a 4.41 40-yard dash at 6-foot-6 and 260 pounds will have NFL evaluators going back to his tape to see if the athleticism that allowed him to blow up the combine drills shows up on tape. It does, and under the right circumstances, Sweat could become a thoroughly unblockable pass rusher from the edge and inside. The Lions will need his skills with Ezekiel Ansah most likely on the move.

Sweat also had an impressive turn during the Senior Bowl in January, notably with a vicious stiff-arm bull rush that none of the offensive tackles in Mobile could stop.
