As thousands of Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) workers crowded at Krishna Kunj, MNS chief Raj Thackeray’s residence in Dadar on Thursday to wish his son Amit on his birthday, the main attraction was the bullet train-shaped birthday cake, brought by the party’s Thane unit.

Thackeray has been opposed to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s ambitious bullet train project, and has been particularly vocal about it in since the Elphinstone Road station stampede in September 2017.

Amidst jokes and laughter, Amit, who was hailed as the future MNS leader by party workers, cut the cake. MNS secretary Sachin More said it was just a spontaneous reaction from party workers.

The social media, too, was full of congratulatory messages for the Thackeray scion, who turned 26.

His father was not present for the celebrations as he is currently touring the state.

While Amit has occasionally hit the campaign trail with his father, such as during the Mumbai civic body elections, as well as campaigned on social media, he has not yet joined politics formally. His cousin and Yuva Sena chief Aaditya Thackeray is already fully involved in politics and is one of Shiv Sena’s star campaigners.
