In MLB The Show 25‘s latest patch, the developers added some new equipment to better align with the real MLB. Among the new additions are four brands of torpedo bats: B45, Chandler, Marucci, and Victus.
These bats are purely aesthetic and won’t change gameplay. On top of that, while discussion around torpedo bat usage has quieted down since the early uproar, it’s also been hard to track who is and is not using a torpedo bat in MLB. Some players have tested them out, some use the bats only some of the time, and then others like Cal Raleigh only use them from one side of the plate. Perhaps due to this, MLB The Show 25 did not go the extra step and assign every player to their torpedo bat.
The most well known user of a torpedo bat is probably still Jazz Chisholm Jr. since he was involved in the early “controversy” around them back in April, but he does not have it assigned to him — even if the Chandler torpedo bat is even called JAZZ.XT. Instead, the below screenshot is from me editing Chisholm’s equipment to use the torpedo bat.
With that in mind, we’re going to do a running list of players who are using torpedo bats or who have at least used them for a chunk of at-bats at some point this season. Because baseball players are fickle and superstitious, so slumps and streaks are impacting the torpedo bat’s day-to-day usage. We have already had some players who were using them a lot at the start of the year abandoning them, and then others have started only as of late to use them.
You can use this list (which, again, will likely be tweaked in the future) to go to the Edit Player screen and then the Equipment page to change their standard bat to a torpedo bat if you want to add a little more realism to your franchise mode.
