MLB's Latino Of The Night: Ronald Acuña Jr. is Doing Reigning National League MVP Things

SEATTLE - The reigning National League MVP returned to his old self on April 9 against the New York Mets. After a slow start to the 2024 campaign, Ronald Acuña Jr. gave everyone a glimpse of his old self going 2-for-3 with three runs, one walk and a season-high three stolen bases.

"I haven't gotten off to the start I've wanted in the season, but it's a long season, and I have a feeling things are going to start going my way," said Acuña through an interpreter after the game.

And maybe this is where things turn around for Acuña, who had been struggling since his season debut. After a strong first game against the Phillies, he had trouble posting up the numbers he did throughout last season. Until yesterday. He entered the game against the Mets on April 9 hitting .222 with no homers, one stolen base and a .611 OPS.

His three stolen bases against the Mets tied his career-high and snapped a streak of eight games without a single stolen base, his longest since September of last year.

Although the Venezuelan seems to be back on track, he is still missing a homer 11 games into the season. He also didn't achieve one over his 11 games in the Grapefruit League's Spring Training. Last year, he finished with a career-high 41 homeruns, tying his career-high of 2019.

"As soon as I get in that groove, I feel like I'm going to take off running," Acuña said.
