Missy Bo Kearns tells Liverpool to 'put on a show' against Everton and makes Chelsea admission

Missy Bo Kearns has called on her Liverpool side to 'put on a show' against Everton and is hoping to see a bumper crowd at Anfield this weekend.

Two second-half penalties from Katie Stengel earned Matt Beard’s side a shock 2-1 win over title holders Chelsea on their WSL return in front of a record-breaking crowd at Prenton Park last weekend. A total of 3,006 fans attend the game.

Liverpool are now preparing to return to Anfield for the first time since November 2019. Everton were also the opponents on that occasion and came away with a 1-0 win.

But ahead of Sunday evening's game, Kearns has claimed it is time for her side to put on a show following their time in the Championship - and believes the Reds’ win over Emma Hayes’ side is proof that they can beat anyone in the WSL.

“No, I can't wait for it. We have been waiting for this game for a few years now, as we haven’t been in the top league, but now we are here, it is time to put on a show,” she told the ECHO.

Kearns then continued on the win over Chelsea, saying: “Shows we can beat anyone if we are beating the champions of the league last year. It is momentum going in and confidence for us.

“We are all on a high, but we know we have got a job to do this Sunday and that is how we are.”

Everton kicked off their own WSL campaign a couple of hours before Liverpool’s win over Chelsea, but new boss Brian Sorensen started with a defeat against West Ham United after Lisa Evans scored the only goal of the game on the stroke of half-time. But Kearns believes form means nothing heading into Merseyside derbies.

“They are going to know we are full confidence and they might be down because they got beat, but that is football, it doesn't matter,” she said.

“It doesn't matter what is going on in the league as soon as the Merseyside derby comes everyone raises their game.”

A crowd of 23,500 watched the last Merseyside derby played at Anfield between the two sides, with Liverpool hoping to attract an even bigger gate this time round. Earlier this month, the Liverpool sporting community came out in force to support Natahsa Jonas in her succesful bid to become a unified world champion at the M&S Bank Arena, and Kearns is hoping to see similar levels of support this weekend.

“I think Liverpool is a community and all the sport supports the sport,” she said when asked about the backing of the Liverpool public.

“Like Natasha, I was made up for her and I wouldn’t be surprised if she comes on the weekend and brings her little daughter because she loves her football.

“Her sister Nikita is from Liverpool and has just won the Euros and I think it is good to see everyone supporting each other. Hopefully it is the same this weekend."

LFC Women return to action at Anfield on Sunday against Everton in the Merseyside derby. Tickets are on sale here, until 4pm on Friday, starting at just £1 for children.
