Missing Glasgow woman on Isle of Wight was in 'distressed state after row' when she disappeared

Police searching for a missing Glasgow woman have said she was in a "distressed state" before she vanished on the Isle of Wight.

Rosie Johnson , who works in a holiday camp on the island, disappeared on Sunday which sparked a large scale search for her.

Officers from Hampshire Constabulary scoured a creek in the hunt and said no crime was involved in her disappearance.

According to a neighbour, Rosie, who works at PGL Little Canada adventure centre, may have been involved in an argument before she went missing.

John Thorpe, 71, who lives close to the 22-year-old said he had spoken to police about Rosie.

He told the Mail : "They didn't reveal too much but they said that she was in a distressed state just before she disappeared.

"The officers wouldn't elaborate but neighbours have since told me that she may have had an argument with someone at the activity centre."

Rosie, a University of Glasgow graduate, was last seen on Sunday evening in the Wooton area of the island.

She is the niece of Daniel Johnson, Labour MSP for Edinburgh Southern.

Mr Johnson wrote on Twitter: "Can I thank everyone for their support and kind wishes regarding my niece's disappearance.

"The kind thoughts and wishes are much appreciated. There is no new information and I would ask people to respect the privacy the family as they concentrate on the search."

Cops and coastguard teams have been focusing their efforts on a number of areas on the island, with officers from the constabulary saying they were "seriously concerned" for her safety.

Inspector Andy MacDonald: "At this moment in time the information we have available to us says Rosie has not been the victim of crime.

"I'm not in a position at this moment to tell you what her state of mind was on Sunday evening.

"We currently do not know her whereabouts and are seriously concerned for her welfare."

"Information we have suggests Rosie is still on the Isle of Wight currently.

"The search started on Monday and we undertook a more extensive search on Tuesday."
