Ministry looks into Mor Prom data discrepancies

An investigation into data verification and system errors within the Mor Prom mobile app will be mounted after more than 10,000 users lodged complaints regarding inaccurate medical records, the Ministry of Public Health says.

Somruek Chungsaman, the ministry's permanent secretary, said officials have forwarded the complaints to hospitals and health centres nationwide so staff can directly contact individuals whose listed services, diagnoses and treatment histories do not belong to them.

He said more updates will be made available on Tuesday before a full press briefing on Friday.

Sources said those affected by the discrepancy in the app will travel to the Ministry of Public Health office in Bangkok on Monday to submit a joint letter of complaint.

They want a probe, measures to compensate those affected and measures to prevent similar incidents from happening again.

On July 27, Public Health Minister Pattana Promphat said the problem may have been caused by data entry errors, fraudulent claims and confusion stemming from off-site medical examinations.

Regarding concerns that the errors may have been intentional so bad actors can claim disbursements, he said a back-end investigation will be conducted to shed light on this.

Initial investigations into one case in Pathum Thani revealed the medical service was dispensed one time, instead of two, to an individual who appeared on the Mor Prom app, as a result of incorrect data entry, he said.

Wijak Karnjanauthai, Director of the Bureau of Digital Health, said a user's national ID card must first be verified at a healthcare facility before data can be entered into the app.

But in cases of medical treatments outside the facility, handwritten entries are used, which could lead to incorrect data entry, he said.

Before last week, just 400 complaints in total had been lodged concerning the Mor Prom app, Dr Somruek said.
