Minions creator debunks disturbing fan theory about beloved characters

  • French animator Pierre Coffin has finally addressed the long-running internet debate concerning the Minions ' whereabouts during World War II, specifically whether they served Adolf Hitler .
  • Coffin clarified that the Minions from the 2015 film were in an ice cave between 1939 and 1945, where they had been hiding for 156 years after accidentally causing Napoleon Bonaparte's downfall in 1812.
  • He explained that while Minions are quasi-immortal beings with a singular purpose to serve despicable masters, the specific group from the first Minions film was isolated, and other Minions were not involved in 'Big History' during that period, thus ending speculation about their absence during Hitler's rise.
  • The latest instalment in the franchise, Minions & Monsters , is set in 1920s Hollywood and follows a new tribe of Minions who discover cinema and inadvertently unleash real monsters while attempting to make a monster movie.
  • Minions & Monsters is the seventh entry in the Despicable Me series, has achieved significant commercial success, grossing over $5.6 billion worldwide, though Coffin has described his dual role as director and voice actor as “exhausting”.
