'Mini budget leaves working people paying the price - Sunak hasn't got a clue'

The Chancellor hasn’t got a clue.

Families are facing a devastating a cost of living crisis. And the Chancellor could have helped them out, by scrapping his tax rise on jobs.

He could have introduced a windfall tax on oil and gas companies to cut household energy bills.

He could have finally brought forward a plan to support British business and create good jobs.

That’s what a Labour Government would have delivered.

But instead, years of Tory tax rises means that after today the OBR say that we will still have the highest tax burden in 70 years.

Not only that, April will now bring the biggest fall in family incomes since records began.

Even with the Chancellor’s cynical changes, he’s only shaving £1 off every £6 he’s taxing people.

This simply isn’t going to cut it as inflation spirals out of control.

Britain’s people needs a government on their side.

Instead, we have one that wants to raise taxes and leave working people paying the price.

Come April, a landlord with a large number of properties or someone who makes huge sums from buying and selling stocks and shares won’t be paying any more in tax, but their tenants will.

Why does the Chancellor repeatedly feel the need to raise taxes on working people, when no other major economy is doing so?

Conservative governments’ failure to get our economy growing over the past 12 years means less revenue going into the Exchequer.

And in the past two years, they have wasted taxpayers’ money – throwing it around like confetti, handing out covid loans to fraudsters which will never be repaid and wasting billions on unusable PPE.

The Conservatives are the party of high taxes, because they are the party of low growth and wasteful spending.

The promise of crumbs in two years’ time will be of little comfort to families struggling to pay the bills today.

It is timed to suit the Tory party’s interests, not the national interest.

Working families and businesses are set to endure greater hardship because of the choices Rishi Sunak has made.
