Miner found in waist-high water after almost two weeks trapped underground

A miner who was trapped in a flooded mine in Mexico for 13 days was rescued on Wednesday (8 April).

Francisco Zapata, 42, was stuck along with three co-workers the Santa Fe mine, in the municipality of El Rosario, in the state of Sinaloa.

"Unfortunately, another miner was also found, but he was no longer alive. There is still one person left to be rescued," Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum said.

Footage showed the moment the miner was discovered, trapped in waist-high waters.

After the rescue, he was covered with a thermal blanket and transferred via a Mexican Air Force helicopter to Mazatlan General Hospital to be treated by specialists.
