A play area has been closed off after being trashed by vandals in a Greater Manchester town. Police say the children's play area at Haywood Park in Golborne, Wigan, has suffered 'substantial damage'.

The incident has left the play area unsafe for youngsters to use. Greater Manchester Police is investigating the incident, with an image shared alongside an appeal for information on social media this afternoon (July 12).

PCSO Jane Dagger, of GMP Leigh, Atherton and Hindley, said: "Unfortunately the children's play area on Haywood Park, Golborne, is not in use due to substantial damage. If anyone in the vicinity that backs onto the play ground or uses this area regularly has any CCTV footage or knowledge of the offenders please get in touch.
