Milwaukee mom charged with abuse after video of beating surfaces on Facebook

MILWAUKEE _ The video, uploaded to Facebook, shocked those who saw it.

It showed a Milwaukee woman hitting a 10-year-old boy with a looped belt, smacking him on his bare buttocks about 40 times as the child wailed for her to stop.

By the end of the beating, the child couldn't stand.

Facebook users who saw the video called police. Investigators identified the woman hitting the child as 28-year-old Jealissa McKinney-Williams, who was charged Tuesday with felony child abuse and obstructing an officer.

According to a criminal complaint:

When police first went to the woman's home, she claimed the children were in Tennessee. Two boys, ages 10 and 11, were located inside her sister's home and two more children, ages 5 and 2, were found in a neighbor's house.

The 10-year-old boy seen in the video told police he received "whoopings" with a belt and so did his 11-year-old brother. The 5-year-old girl said she did not receive such treatment.

Investigators noted little information was available about the children because they are not in school and had not been seen by medical providers. At least two of the children appeared to have marks from prior beatings and poor hygiene, including dental health.

McKinney-Williams remained in Milwaukee County Jail Wednesday on $10,000 bail and is expected back in court March 15 for a preliminary hearing.
