Millionaire ESCAPES driving ban after arguing paperwork got lost in the post on way to luxury manor house

A millionaire escaped a driving ban after arguing that police paperwork must have been lost in the post.

Business tycoon Ajmail Dusanj, who already has six points on his licence, was caught doing 40mph in a 30mph zone in his private reg Land Rover and then failed to respond to a notice of intended prosecution. The 55-year-old claimed that no such letter had arrived at his luxury manor house.

Dusanj said he only learned of the speeding offence when another letter was posted through, stating that Justices had convicted him in his absence and that he faced disqualification. He subsequently asked the case against him to be reopened and Dusanj made the 250-mile round trip from his home in South Staffordshire to Sefton Magistrates' Court in a successful bid to keep his licence.

When asked about the letter of disqualification, Dusanj told the hearing: “This is the first time I was made aware of it. I’ve no idea what it's about.

"Honestly, this is the first letter I’ve received. I've had no letters before that. If I had received one I would have responded.”

Justices dropped the charge of failing to produce documents which would have meant his licence being endorsed with six penalty points. Instead they accepted his guilty plea to the lesser charge of speeding and three points were added to the six points he already had.

Dusanj, who bought Cains Brewery Village in Liverpool in 2002 with his brother Sudarghara, was also fined £166, ordered to pay £144 in costs and a victim surcharge.
