Millie Bobby Brown recalls crying during Stranger Things filming amid David Harbour ‘bullying’ claims

Millie Bobby Brown has reflected on the emotional final season of Stranger Things amid reports she filed a formal complaint against her co-star David Harbour.

The Enola Holmes actress, 21, first joined the hit Netflix series aged 10 as Eleven — the telekinetic girl who became the heart of the show.

As the sci-fi phenomenon prepares to bow out with its fifth and final season, she likened saying goodbye to the world of Hawkins as like “a death of someone you love”.

“I was 10 when I started, so this is like a family to me; not just the cast, not just the crew, but the entity of Stranger Things,” she said appearing in the cover interview of the December issue of British Vogue.

“Twenty pages in, we just all huddled and cried for five minutes straight,” Brown revealed. “We were all each other knew.”

Her remarks come after The Mail on Sunday reported that Brown had filed a formal complaint against Harbour, 50, who plays her on-screen father figure, police chief Jim Hopper, before the filming for season five began.

The publication claimed that Netflix launched an internal investigation after receiving “pages and pages” of allegations relating to bullying and inappropriate behaviour, though none of a sexual nature.

The report said Brown was later accompanied by a personal representative on set for the remainder of production, which wrapped in December 2024.

Netflix has declined to comment, and neither Brown nor Harbour has publicly addressed the claims.

Industry insiders told the paper the streaming giant took the matter “extremely seriously,” ensuring protocols were followed during filming. The results of the inquiry have not been made public.

Harbour, who has been central to Stranger Things since its 2016 debut, has often spoken of his paternal-style relationship with the younger members of the cast — including Brown, Finn Wolfhard, Noah Schnapp, Sadie Sink, Caleb McLaughlin and Gaten Matarazzo.

In a resurfaced interview, Harbour discussed that bond with Esquire Spain, describing the advice he often gave to his younger co-stars about navigating fame.

“They’re all pretty good kids,” he said. “One of the real ropes to hang on to in this business for me has been the artistry of what you’re doing — your particular passion for storytelling, for what you want to say, your voice.”

He added: “I would love to see Gaten [Matarazzo] play King Lear when he’s 70 years old. I’d like to see those kinds of careers out of them.”

The Hellboy actor also reflected on his own experiences, admitting he has made “a lot of mistakes” but sees them as part of his personal growth.

“You either accept your path completely and realise that even the pain, slip-ups and mistakes are part of the journey — or you change everything. I think I’d choose to change nothing,” he said.

His comments have since been viewed in a new light following reports of the investigation, which The Mail claimed “went on for months”. Fans have taken to social media to debate the claims, with some expressing shock and others calling for patience until the findings are made public.

Away from the Upside Down, his private life has also returned to the spotlight amid his separation from singer Lily Allen, who has drawn on their breakup for recently released album West End Girl.

A number of Harbour’s exes and former co-stars have appeared to show support for the Smile hit-maker’s latest collection of songs.
