Whether you enjoy a wild night most weekends or a quiet drink with friends every once in a while; Bristol isn't short of adequate watering holes. There are a huge range of big chains as well as amazing independent spots that Bristol is best known for.

From classic cocktails to original concoctions, Bristol's best bars have something for everyone. There are hidden bars and bars with exciting history that really show the cities colours.

And, although I never need a reason to enjoy a nice drink - World Cocktail Day gives a reason if you need one. Here are some of Bristol's best independent bars that you can go to enjoy.

The Clockwork rose

The Clockwork Rose, 16 St Stephen’s Street, Bristol, BS1 1JR

The Clockwork Rose describe themselves as "the fictional watering hole of the adventurer Captain Sebastian Commodore". They bring some fun to their drinks, recreating the fictional accounts of Captain Commodore's travels into cocktails.

Milk Thistle

The Milk Thistle, Quay Head House, Colston Ave, Bristol, BS1 1EB

The Milk Thistle is a huge bar located near the harbour that boasts a terrace that looks over the city centre as well as a hidden whisky vault. They have an exciting changing menu that adds authenticity to classic drinks.

Brozen Bar

43 St Nicholas St, Bristol BS1 1TP

Brozen Bar is another brilliant venue. Specialising in Frozen cocktails, artisan gelato and exciting drinks made with liquid nitrogen that make for brilliant smoky aesthetics. They explain that "science has always been the guiding light for the team at Brozen."

Crying Wolf

37 Cotham Hill, Bristol, BS6 6JY

The Crying Wolf take pride in utilising fresh and local ingredients and suppliers, particularly independents from in and around. Their juices are fresh-pressed to order whilst their syrups, shrubs, and cordials all made on site.

Red Light

Basement, 1 Unity St, Bristol BS1 5HH

Red Light has built an exclusive following over the years and was hailed as the city’s ‘top-secret bar’. Located beside a graffiti-scattered doorway on Unity Street through a payphone and a sign flashing and roaring with the word “SEX”, you will have discovered a speakeasy-style cocktail bar that instantly drew you with its retro fashion and 50’s aesthetic.

Previously speaking to Bristol Live, Amie Smith, general manager of Scarlet Lantern, said: “Scarlet Lantern is run by a really small team, we’re very independent and we’re happy about our independence."

Her Majesty's Secret Service

Whiteladies Gate, Whiteladies Road, Bristol, BS8 2PH

Her Majesty's Secret Service describe themselves as "that cute little independent cocktail bar in Clifton, Bristol." They have an ever changing seasonal menu that guarantees to bring good drinks and good vibes.
