Militant attack on Pakistan police post kills 11 officers

  • An overnight militant attack on a police post in northwestern Pakistan resulted in the deaths of 11 people, including a senior police officer , with over two dozen officers wounded.
  • The assault took place at the Khazina police post in Hangu district, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, a region bordering Afghanistan .
  • Security forces engaged the militants in an hour-long gunbattle, killing 15 of them after they attacked the post with heavy weapons and ambushed arriving reinforcements.
  • Diyar Khan, a senior police officer who led reinforcements to the scene, was among those killed during the intense confrontation.
  • While no group immediately claimed responsibility, suspicion falls on the Pakistani Taliban (Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistan or TTP ), which has increased attacks in the region, with Pakistan accusing Afghanistan's Taliban government of harbouring TTP militants.
