Miley Cyrus wants to educate not 'cancel' DaBaby over rapper's vile homophobic rant

Miley Cyrus has offered an olive branch to DaBaby and called for a more understanding future after the rapper previously unleashed a vile homophobic rant on stage.

The 28-year-old songstress took to social media to reveal a statement in which she hinted that she had sent the musician a DM in the hopes of 'learning from each other'.

In her statement, the Wrecking Ball star also called on fans to help educate and forgive DaBaby instead of cancelling the rapper after his recent remarks.

Miley's gesture came after DaBaby was slammed for voicing disparaging remarks about people with HIV on stage as well as crude comments about gay men.

Instead of criticising the rapper, Miley called on her fans not to stoke further division and instead work toward a more understanding future.

She wrote in her statement: "As a proud and loyal member of the LGBTQIA+ community, much of my life has been dedicated to encouraging love, acceptance, and open mindedness.

"The internet can fuel a lot of hate & anger and is the nucleus of cancel culture... but I believe it can also be a place filled with education, conversation, communication & connection.

She added: "It's easier to cancel someone than to find forgiveness and compassion in ourselves of take the time to change hearts and minds. There's no more room for division if we want to keep seeing progress! Knowledge is power! I know I still have so much to learn!"

Alongside her statement, Miley suggested that she had reached out to DaBaby privately.

Miley added: " @DaBaby check your DMS - would love to talk and see how we can learn from each other and help be part of making a more just and understanding future! For more info @greaterthanaids is a great resource! @happyhippiefdn."

Miley's remarks were met with a mixed response as some fans praised the singer's message of love, conversation and progress, while others suggested that DaBaby was unapologetic about his remarks.

"I see you Miley…love conquers all," wrote one fan.

"You are AMAZING Miley!!! THIS is the response we need to one another.

Miley's statement came almost two weeks after DaBaby launched into a homophobic rant while on stage at the Rolling Loud Festival in Miami.

He told the crowd: "If you didn’t show up today with HIV, AIDS, any of them deadly sexually transmitted diseases that’ll make you die in two, three weeks, then put your cellphone light up."

The American rapper then descended into a shocking tirade that upset and disturbed people after the video was shared on social media.

Amid mounting calls for DaBaby to be cancelled, the rapper wrote on social media two days ago: "I want to apologise to the LGBTQ+ community for the hurtful and triggering comments I made. Again, I apologize for my misinformed comments about HIV/AIDS and I know education on this is important."

Several music festivals have already dropped the rapper from performances this summer.
