Mikel Arteta's perfect £16m transfer to complement Martin Odegaard and Thomas Partey at Arsenal

Renato Sanches has once again highlighted why he would be an excellent midfield signing for Arsenal and Mikel Arteta’s 4-3-3 system. His injury concerns are the doubts about pursuing a deal, but for the £16million price he is quoted at, it may be worth taking the risk.

Sanches has proven to provide some of the most progressive passes and carries per 90 minutes in Europe’s top five leagues this season. The Portuguese international has been a stand-out performer since joining French side Lille who won the Ligue 1 title last season and progressed to the knockout stages of the Champions League during this campaign.

The dominant midfielder isn't known for his capabilities when his team is out of possession. But Arteta’s new system means that Sanches would certainly not be a defensive liability.

The Lille midfielder currently has one of the best ball-carrying tendencies in Europe highlighting his confidence and bravery to turn defence into attack in a swift manner. Arsenal need this type of midfielder to play alongside Thomas Partey and Martin Odegaard, meaning Sanches would prove to be the perfect fit.

There is an extra incentive to sign him because according to SportItalia, the French champions approached Sanches to offer him a new contract. However, the 24-year-old put talks on hold because he is ready for a new adventure.

And this adventure could be Arsenal, which he confirmed himself as Speaking to L’Equipe, Sanches said: “Maybe Milan and Arsenal are interested but I don’t know. I spoke with my agent, I know which clubs are calling me but I can’t say right now. But I know I’m ready. If an offer comes in, I’ll find out what’s best for me.”

The intrigue at a potential deal is also reciprocated as Arsenal are 'very interested' in signing the Lille midfielder, according to recent reports. French outlet Le10sport claims that the Gunners have made their interest in Sanches known to the player, the club, and his representatives

Arsenal have lacked a goalscoring midfielder from deep and Sanches would certainly fill that void if given the opportunity. He also has elements to Aaron Ramsey in his game, the way he is able to glide from one box to the other and he is pretty impressive in front of goal.

The main doubt surrounding Sanches is his injury issues, which have been a prominent feature throughout his young career, however, reports in France have quoted him as costing around £16million, and for such a bargain for a quality player, it is worth taking the risk for the Portuguese international.
