Mikel Arteta praises Ben White and Gabriel partnership as Arsenal duo overcome huge problem

Mikel Arteta has praised the defensive partnership of Ben White and Gabriel Magalhaes following Arsenal's stalemate at Brighton.

The Gunners signed White from Brighton this summer for a fee of £50million after the England international was identified as the ideal centre back partner for Gabriel.

Brazil defender Gabriel recently returned from a knee injury and has formed a solid partnership with White in recent games.

Both players were part of a defence which kept clean sheets against Norwich and Burnley, whilst also keeping Brighton at bay for much of Saturday's game at the Amex.

However, Arteta admits there have been challenges with regards to Gabriel's adaptation period as he attempts to master the English language.

"Gabi's still struggling a little bit with the language," said Arteta.

"They've gained a good connection, a good chemistry. Their qualities match eachother really well. I thought both of them today were terrific."

Gabriel admitted at the end of last season that he felt comfortable in London following his first season at the club.

“I can say that it’s not been a perfect year, because if it were a perfect year we would be at the top of the table, but it’s been a year of great learning, because it’s my first in the Premier League,” he told ESPN Brasil in April.

“I’m very happy here, I already feel at home, little by little I’m learning English.

“It’s been a learning season, which will certainly be remembered for the rest of my life. There were moments of learning, sadness, but as I said, a season that will be useful.”
