Mikel Arteta can reverse Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang decision if Edu seals shock Arsenal transfer

Transfer deadline day is tomorrow and Arsenal are once again being linked with a shock move for Chelsea midfielder Jorginho.

This is after missing out on a deal to sign Lyon playmaker Houssem Aouar.

The 22-year-old was the subject of a bid - which was rejected - from the Gunners last weekend and talks had been ongoing between the two clubs.

There was an expectation that the north London side would return with an improved offer to seal a deal, but according to RMC Sport, Aouar emerged from a meeting with the Lyon hierarchy on Saturday and announced to his teammates that he would be staying at the Groupama Stadium this season.

As a result, the Gunners have reportedly turned their attentions elsewhere and ESPN journalist Julien Laurens claims that Arsenal will now try and make a move for Jorginho

The former Napoli star has been linked with a move away from Stamford Bridge in this window, with Paris Saint-Germain also reportedly interested in his services.

It remains to be seen if the Blues would be willing to business with the Gunners as the Italy international has been a key player for head coach Frank Lampard since his appointment last summer.

Whilst Jorginho may not be the midfield target some Arsenal fans have been dreaming of, he does possess one particular quality that would make him a welcome addition at the Emirates Stadium.

During his time in Serie A, the Premier League, and with the Italy national team, Jorginho has proven himself to be one of the most reliable penalty takers around.

Of the 23 he's taken throughout his career, only two have been missed. The most recent one was in Chelsea's 2-0 loss against Liverpool last month as Alisson Becker guessed correctly to keep out his spot-kick.

But he was successful in the Carabao Cup shootout against Tottenham Hotspur and scored two penalties in the Blues' 4-0 win over Crystal Palace on Saturday afternoon to prove his rare miss was just a blip.

Of course, Arsenal already have someone who is just as reliable from 12 yards in captain Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and manager Mikel Arteta has already decided who his penalty taker for this season will be.

"Yes, Auba will start taking the penalties, for now," Arteta confirmed.

However, could Arteta be tempted to reverse this decision if Edu seals a shock move for Jorginho? Well, it's worth taking under consideration as the Italian is almost perfect from the spot while Aubameyang has missed a total of eight penalties throughout his career.
