Mike Tyson 'once knocked out garbage man' after he threw pet pigeon in the bin

Mike Tyson once knocked out a bin man because he threw away his pet pigeon.

The former Heavyweight champion has always had a huge affection for pigeons and lost one named Julius when he was just ten years old.

He planned to give the bird a proper memorial but before he could do so saw it binned by a man who found it lifeless and considered it rubbish.

Tyson landed 44 knockout blows during his 58-fight career but one punch outside of the ring still lives long in the memory.

He revealed to World Boxing Council: "One morning I woke up and found my favourite pigeon, Julius, had died I was devastated and was gonna use his crate as my stickball bat to honour him.

"I left the crate on my stoop and went in to get something and I returned to see the sanitation man put the crate into the crusher.

"I rushed him and caught him flush on the temple with a titanic right hand he was out cold."

That wasn't the only altercation Tyson was involved in due to pigeons.

One individual ripped the head off one of his pigeons which he claimed was "the first thing I ever loved."

He added: "The guy ripped the head off my pigeon. This was the first thing I ever loved in my life, the pigeon.

"I don't know why, I feel ridiculous just trying to explain it. [Pigeons] are just so much like people."

Tyson has previously claimed that pigeons kept him on the straight and narrow.

He said: "I was fat and ugly. Kids teased me all the time. The only joy I had was pigeons."
