Mike Tindall's reality TV past - including horror ice accident before I'm A Celeb

Mike Tindall may be a royal but he's no stranger to reality TV.

The former rugby player is reportedly set to become the first ever royal to appear on I'm a Celebrity...Get Me Out of Here! later this year, with ITV bosses delighted with their signing and hopeful Zara Tindall's husband's presence in the Australian jungle will make year's series an 'absolute must-watch'.

"It’s a massive coup. Mike has had a box seat for some of the most important moments in royal history for generations," a source shared when discussing speculation the former sports star has signed up for another stint on reality TV, as I'm a Celebrity...Get Me Out of Here! prepares to return to Australia after two-years in Wales.

If the reports are true, and Mike is currently packing his bags ready for the flight Down Under, the ITV show will become another addition to the list of shows the dad-of-three has appeared on over the years - with Anne, Princess Royal's son-in-law even suffering a horrific injury during one TV cameo.

Back in 2015, Mike was beaten by former TOWIE star Joey Essex in the final of the second series of The Jump, after the former England international rugby player had to ask permission from Queen Elizabeth II to appear on the Channel 4 show.

Thankfully, the late monarch was fine with Mike ski jumping, speed skating and the giant slalom among other winter sports for the star-studded reality TV show - with Mike impressing viewers with how he handled a horrific crash during one stunt.

"I thought I'd demonstrate how NOT to do the ski jump and how to land on your head," the royal sarcastically quipped to presenter Davina McCall, after taking a tumble on the slopes and banging his head on the ice.

Mike went on to joke he was 'face-planting the ice on purpose' in a bid to fix his famous broken nose.

The royal didn't have much luck when he appeared on another reality TV show later the same year - having to be airlifted to hospital after cracking his head open during a stint on Bear Grylls: Mission Survive.

The rugby star was hit in the head by a tree branch during the adventure through the Costa Rican rainforest. Bear admitted that he felt nervous about what the Queen might have to say about her granddaughter’s husband being injured - joking he worried the monarch may 'behead me'.

Mike had been getting stuck in when in the jungle and seemed to have no problems knocking back his own urine before he got hit on the head pretty hard and gashed his forehead with wood - forcing him to visit a nearby hospital.

"He was in hospital for half an hour and had stitches. They warned him it wasn’t going to be pretty and that he’d probably have a scar. We said he could be extracted and have it looked at properly," Bear told The Sun when discussing the royal's injury at the time.

Bear then continued to say that he was impressed with Mike's commitment as he 'just wanted to get back to the jungle.'

Away from action-packed reality TV series Mike has also appeared on more glamourous shows over the years - popping up Shark Cage the year before his stints on The Jump and Bear Grylls: Mission Survive.

Shark Cage see poker pros, celebrities and online qualifiers compete in a series of six heats, with each winner advancing to the final table and their share of a $1,000,000 prize pool.

Discussing his experience on the show in 2016, Mike said: "I lost a coin flip for a million dollars [on Shark Cage]. I got my butt kicked."

Clearly a big poker fan, Mike also appeared on Celebrity Poker Club and All Star Poker Challenge in 2005.

Reports from The Sun have suggested Mike's next reality TV appearance will be on I'm a Celebrity...Get Me Out of Here! next month, in what has been a "massive coup" for the ITV show.

"It’s a massive coup. Mike has had a box seat for some of the most important moments in royal history for generations," a source shared, "He is sure to be discreet, but his sheer presence means this series will be an absolute must-watch."

The Mirror have previously contacted representatives for Mike Tindall for comment.
