Mike Tindall red-faced as he confirms he wasn't at the 'wrong end' for son's birth

Mike Tindall has opened up about his son Lucas' birth and confirmed that he didn't deliver his and Zara's baby boy.

Appearing on Good Morning Britain on Friday, Mike told hosts Ben Shephard and Kate Garraway that Lucas Philip's quick birth wasn't exactly what they were expecting.

When Ben commented on the claims that Mike delivered his son, the former rugby player replied: "No, that’s not true. Fortunately the midwife got there in time so I didn’t have to go down to the area... the downside... the wrong end, I got to stay at the top end and be supportive."

Ben then joked: "Girls have got their head in their hands as you're describing this Mike, to the business end you could have said!"

"Sorry the 'business end' would have been a far better way of describing it!" Mike laughed.

"It wasn't what we were expecting but Zara's best friend Dolly, who's a maternity nurse, was there and had the situation in control.

Zara and Mike recently welcomed their baby son named Lucas Philip (PA)

"And then the midwife arrived which made me breathe a sigh of relief that I could just be chatting to Zara and trying to get her through it."

Mike, 42, said it was nice to finally have a baby boy as the couple are already parents to their two daughters, Mia and Lena.

“It’s been a little bit of a rollercoaster of emotions in terms of highs and lows but he’s been brilliant to be fair," Mike said of them being a family of five now.

"It’s nice to have a boy around to keep me company. The girls are outnumbering me by quite a number so it’s nice to have Lucas around.

"He’s been so far - touch wood - he’s been great in terms of his sleeping and eating and doing everything that a five-week old does," Mike added.

The former sportsman also confirmed that their son's middle name is a tribute to the Duke of Edinburgh as well as Mike's father, who is also called Philip.

"It works for both. My dad's Philip and then Prince Philip, I think it was a no brainer for both of us, a bit of a shout out to both of them."

Good Morning Britain airs weekdays at 6am on ITV.
