Mike Tindall explains reason for Prince Louis' behaviour at Jubilee and what non-balcony royals did instead

While the last weekend's celebrations were all about the Queen, it was her great-grandson Prince Louis who ended up stealing the show. The royal family were out in force during the extended Bank Holiday weekend for the Queen's Platinum Jubilee celebrations.

It all kicked off last Thursday (June 2) with the traditional Trooping the Colour which included the first balcony appearance for the 96-year-old Monarch of the Jubilee, alongside Prince Charles, the Duchess of Cornwall, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, their children as well as other senior members of the royal family.

But it was the young Prince Louis who got everyone talking as he could be spotted pulling a flurry of hilarious faces as he joined his family on the balcony of Buckingham Palace. His face was quickly used as memes as the youngster momentarily appeared disinterested in what was going on around him before struggling with the noise of the RAF flypast and adorning crowds lining the Mall.

After being left at home while his mum, dad, and two older siblings - Prince Geroge and Princess Charlotte - carried out official engagements in Cardiff before attending the Platinum Party at the Palace concert on Saturday (June 4), Louis made a much welcome return to the fold on Sunday for the last of the official events.

The four-year-old marvelled at the Platinum Pageant, which told the story of the Queen's life with an eccentric, fun and imaginative carnival-like display and included a 'Time of Our Lives' segment which saw a whole host of famous faces aboard open-top buses waving to the crowds as they represented each decade in which the Queen has been on the throne.

But he also got in a bit of bother with the Duchess of Cambridge as he attempted to getting her to stop talking by putting his hand over her mouth before sticking his tongue out. He was then on the move and as well as sitting on his father's knee, he also headed to his grandfather Prince Charles' lap during the final official ceremony of the weekend.

Mike Tindall was also snapped with his eyes on the young prince, giving the cheeky youngster an ‘I’m watching you’ gesture, as he attended the last of the big events with his wife Zara, the Queen's granddaughter, and their children. Following his busy weekend, the former rugby player appeared on The Good, The Bad and The Rugby podcast, where he was asked about his experience over the Jubilee by co-hosts James Haskell and Alex Payne.

As James and Alex commented that the children ended up being the "stars of the show", Mike agreed while also revealing: "Louis, he was just wanting to have fun. And my two are always mischievous so it's trying to keep a lid on. There were a lot of sweets out back though, so there was a real sugar high."

He added: "It's tough for them. They're all young… it's a long time. But as any parent knows you just do whatever needs to be done." Mike also went on to reveal what the rest of the family got up to when the first of the Buckingham Palace balcony appearances took place.

"It was outstanding, to be fair. It was just great to be a part of," he said of the whole weekend before adding: "We had a good cousins' lunch on the Thursday. That was a highlight."

Earlier this week, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge also reference their son's Jubilee antics in a thank you message to the public as the dust settled on a historic event.
