On Saturday, October 18, approximately 2,500 ‘No Kings’ protests are expected to take place in Washington, DC, New York and several other locations. These protests are Americans’ way of telling President Trump that they believe in democracy and not the monarchy he is trying so hard to establish.
As the D-day nears, several Republicans have already threatened the protesters with action while using strong words to defame them. After President Donald Trump recently called the ‘No Kings’ protest the “Hate America rally”, his close companion and House of Representatives Speaker Mike Johnson is also sharing a similar thought.
In a White House address on Thursday, Johnson spoke of the “Hate America rally” while highlighting that it would attract the “pro-Hamas” and “Antifa” people. His obnoxious comments about the peaceful protestors demonstrating against the current Trump government made it to social media, where people ripped him apart.
On X, many pointed out that Johnson was speaking the language of fascism and that the protestors were congregating to oppose that very thing Republicans like him perpetuate. One person wrote, “So now peacefully protesting a wannabe authoritarian makes you “Hamas” or “Antifa”? Mike Johnson is not warning the public, he’s trying to smear & intimidate Americans out of showing up. When leaders start labeling dissent as terrorism, it’s called fascist damage control,” while noting that the protestors were attempting to “reject” Trump’s corruption & his “wannabe king agenda.”
This is not Mike Johnson’s first attempt to agitate Americans and turn them against the protestors; he also said something similar about the ‘No Kings’ protests during an interview with Fox News on Friday. He had stated:
“Some of the House Democrats are selling t-shirts for the event. And it’s being told to us that they won’t be able to reopen the government until after that rally because they can’t face their rabid base.”
Johnson’s comments about the government shutdown being Democrat-led have officially entered their third week. Things to note here: In both terms of Donald Trump’s presidency, there have been government shutdowns. While the last one was the longest in history, lasting 35 days, this one could very soon break that record.
