Mike Jackson on 'simple' Burnley need as Leeds United relegation battle set for climax

Burnley caretaker manager Mike Jackson has affirmed his sides desire to continue fighting to the very end, as they battle to remain in the Premier League this season. The Clarets were beaten by 1-0 in north London on Sunday afternoon, as Harry Kane's penalty was to be a decisive blow.

Forward Ashley Barnes was adjudged to have handled inside the penalty area, and, after consulting VAR, referee Kevin Friend pointed to the spot. Following Leeds United's last-gasp 1-1 draw with Brighton, the Clarets are now back in the bottom three, a point below Leeds, but with a game in hand on Jesse Marsch's side.

Jackson's team play Aston Villa on Thursday night, before next Sunday's final round of fixtures, where the last relegation spot will be decided, with the Clarets boss remaining positive about his team's chances.

"I think so," he said. "We've come here today with a plan on how we wanted to play and executed that, apart from one [penalty] decision.

"I'm really proud of the group and again we are talking about seeing that fighting spirit, I can see that character and desire and we came here and showed desire compared to where they are or the occasion. That's really pleasing for me."

"We know what's in front of us, we have two games now and we know we need to get points from them. It's very simple and if you try and mask it as something else then you're not being real. We know what we need to do."

"We have to try and win the next game. I won't be looking into one past that and we will try and win the next one in front of us."
