Midtjylland bulk up security for Rangers clash but praise behaviour of Scottish fans

FC Midtjylland have employed extra security staff for Thursday's Europa League clash with Rangers after the weekend scenes of mayhem at Kilmarnock.

But they have stressed they are confident the third qualifying round clash will pass off without incident - and have praised the reputation of Scottish fans.

Rangers' opening league win at Kilmarnock was marred by chaotic scenes both inside and outside the stadium, culminating in a roof in a disabled section of Rugby Park being crushed, amid claim and counter-claim from both sets of fans and clubs.

Steven Gerrard 's side will be backed by 743 fans in Denmark and FC Midtjylland's security manager, Lars Pedersen, has insisted there will be no problems at the MCH Arena at Herning and stated that he trusts Rangers fans to enjoy themselves.

He said: "As a club, we never compromise on security. And we won't do that against Rangers either.

"You can safely come to the MCH Arena and families can take their children to the stadium safely.

"There will be security staff all around the track and there will be security in all corners, at all doors and at the concourses.

"Just as the police do not disclose how many officers they will have for various events, we will not disclose the number of security staff. But I can promise we have brought in enough of them to handle the game.

"We never take security lightly and we always follow the applicable rules set by UEFA.

"There will also be Scottish police officers, as is customary these days when clubs play around Europe.

"Rangers have 600 fans in the away section and 143 in the Main stand, which go to club directors and players' families.

"The Scots generally have a good reputation. They are happy and positive people. And in the football sense it is extremely rare to hear about riots.

"We have the impression that the Rangers fans who show up on Thursday are ordinary people who just want to enjoy themselves and enjoy a good football match."
