Middlesbrough's transfer stance on Nottingham Forest striker

Nottingham Forest striker Lyle Taylor has been linked with a move away from the club this summer – but it seems Middlesbrough won’t be his destination.

The 31-year-old only signed for the Reds as a free agent last summer, signing a three-year contract after leaving Charlton Athletic, but found himself down the pecking order during his first season at the club.

Taylor made 42 appearances during the 2020/21 campaign, with 25 of those coming from off the substitutes’ bench.

Amid Forest’s collective goalscoring troubles, he found the net five times in total, with his last strike coming against Cardiff City in the FA Cup back in January.

There was speculation he could move on – and Football League World claimed the Reds could make Taylor available for loan, with Middlesbrough, Blackburn Rovers and Barnsley “all on alert” over potentially securing his services.

That link came as manager Chris Hughton has made it clear he would look to boost his team’s firepower. Creating more chances and scoring more goals will be key to transforming a side which finished 17th into one capable of breaking into the top six.

However, TeessideLive reckons a Middlesbrough move for Taylor isn’t on the cards

They say wage demands and the transfer fee will result in Boro being ‘cautious’ and conclude, “It’s unlikely.”
