Trump says US and Iran are talking, but Tehran is not yet ready for deal
President Donald Trump has said the US and Iran were in talks to negotiate an end to the conflict, but repeated that Tehran was not yet ready for a deal.
"We are talking to them. I think they're being serious. I think ... they are being by far the most serious that we've seen them, but that doesn't mean we get there. We'll see what happens," Trump said in remarks to reporters at the White House.
Mozambique-flagged LPG tanker attacked in Iranian waters, Indian embassy says
A Mozambique-flagged LPG tanker carrying 28 Indian crew members was attacked in Iranian territorial waters on Friday, the Indian embassy in Tehran said.
All Indian crew members are safe and the embassy is in contact with the authorities, it said in a statement.
The vessel, named Disha, was attacked by an unknown missile near the Strait of Hormuz while en route to the Persian Gulf, the Forward Seamen's Union of India, a trade union representing Indian maritime workers, said.
Deadly clashes in the occupied West Bank
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has vowed to respond with "full force" following a deadly clash in the occupied West Bank. Two Israeli soldiers were killed on Friday in fighting near the settlement of Havat Gilad and the neighbouring village of Tal. The incident comes amid a sharp rise in violence across the West Bank since the start of the Gaza war in October 2023.
PA condemns Israeli settler 'terrorism' after West Bank clashes
The Palestinian Authority's presidency has condemned violence by Israeli settlers in the occupied West Bank after a clash that left four Palestinians and two Israelis dead.
Palestinian president Mahmoud Abbas's office said it "condemns Israeli colonists' terrorism across (the) West Bank", according to a statement published by the official news agency Wafa.
"The Presidency denounced in particular the killing of four Palestinians by colonists... and subsequent attacks by colonists on civilians and their property in the towns and villages of Urif, Surra, Imatin, Far'ata, Umriha, and Masafer Yatta," the statement added.
Trump warns Russia and China against arms sales to Iran
President Donald Trump has said he does not think China and Russia are "participating" in the Iran war -- but if they did, "it would be very bad for them".
In a post on his Truth Social platform, Trump said Chinese President Xi Jinping assured him that Beijing as well as Chinese companies are not supplying or selling Iran arms. The assurance came during Trump's visit to China in May, the US president said.
"Therefore, two major Countries that people speak of often in terms of Iran are, in my opinion, not participating," Trump said. "If they did, it would be very bad for them -- Certainly not in their best interests."
Iran warns countries aiding US attack
Middle East tensions are once again driving up global oil prices, with Brent crude climbing above $100 a barrel for the first time since May. While much of the focus has been on the strategic Strait of Hormuz, the alternative shipping route through the Red Sea is becoming increasingly dangerous after Yemen's Iran-backed Houthi rebels said they targeted two Saudi oil tankers. US President Donald Trump said on Thursday he was considering a "massive attack" on Iran, prompting Tehran to warn it would hold accountable any country that assists the United States in such an operation. Pakistan, Iran explore path towards new talks with US in a China-initiated push, sources say
Pakistan is exploring a path towards a resumption of stalled US-Iran talks over ending their nearly five-month-old war following a push initiated by China, Reuters reports quoting three unnamed Pakistani sources.
Exploratory discussions took place during a visit by Iran's Interior Minister Eskandar Momeni to Islamabad this week — his second within the last 10 days, the sources said.
Momeni, who is considered close to Iran's Revolutionary Guard Corps, met with Pakistani government leaders and army chief Asim Munir this week, according to Pakistani government statements.
All three sources cautioned that the obstacles to any talks with the US remain high.
In pictures: Residents enter southern Lebanese town after Israeli withdrawal
Residents began entering the southern Lebanese town of Zawtar al-Gharbiyeh this morning, with many inspecting damaged homes and searching for belongings after Israeli troops withdrew and the Lebanese army deployed under a US-brokered agreement.
The return remains tentative. More than half the town has been destroyed and many of the homes still standing are badly damaged, according to Mayor Abed Ezzeddin.
The Lebanese army began deploying in Zawtar al-Gharbiyeh earlier this week after Israeli forces withdrew from the area, marking the first test of a US-brokered plan agreed by Lebanon and Israel in direct talks.
The plan foresees the Lebanese army confiscating Hezbollah's weapons in designated areas and Israeli troops withdrawing in phases so that Lebanese troops can deploy. The Israeli military has described Zawtar al-Gharbiyeh as one of three towns or villages covered by an initial pilot programme.
Israeli troops still occupy a swathe of territory about 10 kilometres (six miles) into southern Lebanon, where they have razed villages to the ground.

Houthis say they don't seek to close key Bab al-Mandeb Strait
The Houthi movement has said it is not blocking traffic through the strategic Bab al-Mandeb Strait, after declaring a maritime blockade earlier this week on their foe Saudi Arabia.
"There is no closure of Bab al-Mandab as some are suggesting," said Mohammed Abdusalam, a top Houthi negotiator, adding that the rebel position was "limited to a maritime blockade that only affects the Saudi side".
Netanyahu to visit Washington, meet with Trump, PM's office says
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu will travel to Washington on Monday and will meet with President Donald Trump on Tuesday, according to a statement from Netanyahu's office.
US hits network of Iranian financier Zanjani with more sanctions
The US has announced further sanctions against nine firms and four individuals associated with sanctioned Iranian financier Babak Zanjani for their efforts to evade US sanctions.
The US Treasury Department said the new designations target Zanjani's Iran-based operations under his "Dot One" conglomerate and several firms based in Turkey and the United Arab Emirates that have supported his already designated digital asset exchanges, as well as top executives at those firms.
Zanjani had leveraged a diverse portfolio that includes financial services, digital asset trading and gold and precious gem production, along with major infrastructure projects, to launder revenue and move funds covertly for Iran, the Treasury Department said.
“The Iranian regime continues to pay a steep economic price for its reckless behavior, with the rial plunging to another record low and inflation up massively,” Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent said in a statement. "Treasury will continue cutting off economic access for corrupt Iranian regime elites, along with their financiers and facilitators.”
The Treasury's Office of Foreign Assets Control first designated Zanjani and his two largest digital asset projects, Zedcex Exchange Limited (Zedcex) and Zedxion Exchange Limited (Zedxion) in January.
Netanyahu orders new West Bank settler outposts after deadly clash
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has said his government will establish new settler outposts in the occupied West Bank and legalise more existing ones, after a deadly clash left one Israeli and four Palestinians dead.
In a joint statement with Defence Minister Israel Katz, Netanyahu and announced "a series of steps" including raids in Palestinian villages suspected of hosting militants and "accelerating the legalisation of farm outposts and establishment of new ones".
All the settlements are illegal under international law.
EU imposes new ‘restrictive measures’ on Iranian judges, leading cyber figure
The EU has imposed new “restrictive measures” on Iranian judges and a leading figure of a pro-regime cyber group, the bloc’s foreign policy chief has announced.
“Today, the EU imposed new restrictive measures on Iranian judges responsible for serious human rights violations, including the persecution of political dissidents and religious minorities,” EU foreign policy chief Kaja Kallas said on X.
“We also sanctioned a leading figure of a cyber group who enabled the regime’s repression of information. As Tehran intensifies its domestic crackdown, the EU will continue to hold those responsible to account. who enabled the regime’s repression of information,” she added.
Jordan downs seven Iranian missiles and six drones, state TV reports
Jordan’s army says it downed seven Iranian missiles and six drones, Jordanian state TV reports.
Earlier today, the Iranian army claimed drone attacks against Jordan targeted "aircraft hangars, aviation maintenance hangars and a barracks" at the Al-Azraq base.
🎥 Oil prices surge above $100 a barrel for first time since May
Global oil prices have surged once again as tensions in the Middle East continue to escalate. Brent crude has climbed above $100 a barrel for the first time since May.
While much of the focus has been on the strategic Strait of Hormuz, shipping through the Red Sea is also coming under growing threat after Yemen's Iran-backed Houthi rebels said they targeted two Saudi oil tankers.
The escalation comes as Donald Trump said he was considering a "massive attack" on Iran, prompting Tehran to warn it would hold accountable any country supporting a US strike.
