Mick McCarthy's definitive Cardiff City transfer verdict on Man City and Middlesbrough target

Mick McCarthy has rubbished claims Cardiff City are in the running to sign Solihull Moors frontman Kyle Hudlin.

The Bluebirds were said to be in the mix along with Manchester City and Middlesbrough as potential destinations for the striker, who stands at 6ft 9ins.

He is believed to be the tallest professional British footballer currently in action, which would come in handy in a team whose five Championship goals have all come from headers so far this term.

The Athletic claim that Man City went to scout the player last weekend in Solihull's pre-season friendly with Notts County and claimed the Bluebirds and Boro are both interested parties, too.

However, when it was put to McCarthy whether he was exploring the option of signing the striker, the Bluebirds boss simply replied, with a smile: "No."

A pretty definitive response from the manager, who continues to insist he is happy with his lot after recruiting four players this summer.

It comes after he also revealed that he will allow Marley Watkins to leave the club when his short-term contract is up at the end of August.

The manager appears happy with his striker stable and even name checked youngsters such as Chanka Zimba and Isaak Davies as players who could play a part in that area of the pitch as the season wears on.
