Mick Jagger 'to undergo heart surgery this week' after cancelling tour

Mick Jagger is reportedly set to undergo heart surgery this week after cancelling the Rolling Stones tour.

The 75-year-old will apparently have an operation to replace a heart valve in New York in the coming days, the Drudge Report claims.

He is expected to made a full recovery and return to stage by summer.

Mirror Online has contacted his publicist for comment.

It comes after the star announced the postponement of the band's upcoming gigs in the US and Canada on Saturday, telling fans he needed medical attention for an undisclosed illness.

The singer said: "I’m so sorry to all our fans in America & Canada with tickets. I really hate letting you down like this. I’m devastated for having to postpone the tour but I will be working very hard to be back on stage as soon as I can. Once again, huge apologies to everyone."

And a source told The Sun that something 'untoward' had been discovered during pre-tour medical screening.

"As happens ahead of every tour, Mick had a routine screening where something untoward was found. It is something that needs monitoring over the next month, and may require hospital treatment," the insider said.

"It's a setback, but Mick trains like an athlete and looks after himself. He'll get better quickly."

The tour dates will be rescheduled once Mick is fighting fit, with the band confirming, "Unfortunately today the Rolling Stones have had to announce the postponement of their upcoming US/Canda tour dates - we apologise for any inconvenience this causes those who have tickets to shows but wish to reassure fans to hold onto these existing tickets, as they will be valid for the rescheduled dates, which will be announced shortly."
