Michigan State will retire Draymond Green’s number on December 3rd

At his press conference today, Tom Izzo announced that Michigan State will be retiring Draymond Green’s number (23) at the home game against Duke on December 3rd. The team has not yet determined if Xavier Tillman will change his number after the retirement or if he will ask Draymond for permission to continue wearing the number through the season.

Here is what Izzo said about the decision to retire Green’s number:

“Throughout all his success, he never forgot where he came from.

He’s a guy that’s always made other people better. I think that’s what our program stands for. He’s given me personally so much.”

Draymond has represented Michigan State as a professional athlete perhaps more than any other Michigan State alumni we’ve seen. He is constantly returning for events and repping the program on social media. In his time at MSU, Draymond was one of the best basketball players the program had ever seen and he is very deserving of this honor.
