Michigan State drops to no. 7 in latest Big Ten Power Rankings

With an upcoming bye week, Michigan State and Mark Dantonio have a lot to think over after two blowout losses to Big Ten rivals Ohio State and Wisconsin on the road. Those two losses were significant blows to Michigan State’s position in their division, and that was reflected in the latest Detroit Free Press’ Big Ten Power Rankings where the Spartans have now dropped from six to seven overall.

Here is what they had to say:

“Since their one appearance in the College Football Playoff in 2015, the Spartans have gone 24-21 and retreated to the middle of the conference pack. The salad days of the Mark Dantonio era seem long gone and was only reaffirmed Saturday during the 38-0 loss to Wisconsin.”

With the bye week, Michigan State won’t have a chance to correct the opinion surrounding the team anytime soon, but they’ll have a prime opportunity to change the narrative surrounding their season with a huge matchup against Penn State on October 26th on ABC.
