Michigan HS Player of the Year Cameron Martinez commits to Ohio State

Michigan’s High School Player of the Year, four-star recruit Cameron Martinez, has committed to Ohio State. Martinez is a 5-foot-11, positionless (has played mostly safety and QB) athlete weighing in at about 183 pounds.

Martinez is the ideal size for both a wide receiver on the offensive side of the ball and safety or cornerback on the defensive side.

Recruited by Brian Hartline, the Buckeyes may use Martinez at a position unfamiliar to him, the wide receiver hybrid position. If that’s the case, OSU might easily have the best receiving core in 2020, backed by the classes’ top receiving recruit Julian Fleming.

Martinez announced his commitment on Twitter on July 4th, giving Buckeye Nation an even greater reason to celebrate.

The eighth-best player in the state of Michigan, Martinez gives the Buckeyes their 11th recruit rated a four-star or better.

That said, according to Bucknuts’ Bill Kurelic, it seems like playing in Columbus was a dream scenario for Martinez.

“I’ve grown up liking Ohio State with my brother,” Martinez said.  “I like how much success they have each year.”

Ohio State was far from Martinez’s only offer. He had it narrowed down to four Big Ten schools: Ohio State, Minnesota, Northwestern and Michigan.

The Buckeyes’ Class of 2020 is still ranked No. 4 nationally after Martinez’s signing but the program is on quite a run with a slew of commitments over the last few days.
